About Kelp Social
Hi, I’m Mollie Kerr, CEO & founder of Kelp Social.
Animals have always been at the centre of my life. It’s hard to explain just how much they mean to me — but they’ve been my constant, my purpose, for as long as I can remember.
I tried out a lot of different career paths in my head, but none of them felt like they would give me the impact I was searching for. So I trusted my instincts. I studied Animal Management at Merrist Wood, then Pet Shop Management, hoping to understand pet welfare from the ground up. I worked in an ethical pet shop for a while, but deep down I knew I needed to create something bigger — something that truly reflected my values.
For years, one question has followed me around: how can I help every animal species? It’s an impossible question in some ways, and at times it has felt overwhelming. But the answer I kept coming back to was simple: build a place where people who care — people like me, and maybe like you — can come together to make change.
We’re building what’s been missing: the go-to hub for animal lovers, advocates, and ethical brands. A synergistic community space — where organisations can connect, experts can share knowledge, and brands that genuinely care about animals finally have the place they deserve.
The name comes from kelp forests in the ocean—huge ecosystems that support life on a massive scale. Sea otters even wrap themselves in the kelp to rest safely while they sleep. I loved that image: a living, protective network, carrying and protecting life. That’s what I hope Kelp Social can be. A Raft — strong enough to support animals through awareness, action, and connection.

What is Kelp?
Kelp is one of the best ecosystem engineers in the world. Kelp provides shelter, habitat, and food, while creating oxygen for the surrounding waters.
Sea otters, cormorants, leopard sharks, seals, fish and many more species are dependent on kelp to survive and thrive.
Their tall fronds become canopies on the water’s surface and these fronds act as a raft.
Why are we called Kelp Social?
Kelp Social offers the same sanctuary for animals above the water. Acting like its namesake, this essential part of the marine environment, Kelp Social offers the same sanctuary for animals above the water.
Kelp Social aims to create a space online that will better the lives of all species globally. Join Kelp Social and be The Raft. This surface will strengthen, but we need you.
